Wondercide, plant-based pest control

Drove earned media for national news. Managed lifestyle PR for Wondercide, which is a plant-based option to conventional pest control for pets, families, homes, and yards.

Coverage led to adding affiliate partners. The Wasp & Hornet Spray product launch was hailed as the most successful campaign in the company’s history.

Project success factor

A 18% increase in quarterly revenue and 8% reduction in cost.Increased earned media placements in 2023 (+206%) and in 2024 (+93%) year over year. Sales increased 33%.

Avertium, cybersecurity firm

Challenge: Avertium cybersecurity firm engaged a prominent public relations agency. Their goal was to enhance
brand visibility and set up a speakers’ bureau. Yet, the previous agency failed to secure event invitations. They
also did not obtain media coverage.

Leveraged technical expertise to identify suitable conferences, develop a strategic editorial calendar, and create
comprehensive speaker profiles. Submitted abstracts and proactively pitched organizational leadership for both
conference engagements and media opportunities.

Project success factor

The initial objective was to achieve 10 speaker placements within one year. Within approximately 6–9 months,
we pursued 75 abstracts. We secured 11 speaker placements. We maintained 34 proposals under consideration.
We attained an average of 15 monthly media features. We achieved an average placement of 7 abstracts per
month.

Barely Extensions, Audela (Sally Beauty)

Challenge: Lack of visibility and small budget for beauty brand in highly competitive environment.

I created a PR Program for Barely Extensions, a Sally Beauty Supply Brand. The goal was to secure organic news

coverage, feature articles and placements on an ongoing basis. Created an editorial calendar. Collaborated with

the client to create high fashion press materials. This effort helped to garner regular coverage on topics like:

Coachella looks, Galentine’s Day, Back to School Style.

Project success factor

A 1.5M impressions media lift within the first 4 months.

DentalPlans

As Agency of Record for :DentalPlans.com, we created their first ever public relations and community relations programs, executive bios, messaging, press center and press materials. We also led media relations and a content amplification program. This approach tracked which articles most engaged with their key audiences. It also solicited web traffic and sales.

Project success factor

Through writing, adjustments, and a content amplification program, we drove website traffic up year over year. Traffic increased over 30% when popular article topics ran.

Melissa has over 20 years of experience developing award-winning PR programs for regional and national clients. She has held leadership roles in public relations and communications at The Home Depot, Georgia-Pacific, and Equifax. At Biggs-Gilmore Communications, she managed advertising, marketing, and PR for clients including Upjohn Animal Health, Big Dutchman, and the Greater Kalamazoo United Way.
