UScellular 2023 Community Event Tour Travels to State Fair of West Virginia Aug. 10

Company Adding Network Capacity through COLT (cell on light truck) so Attendees can Stop Scrolling and Start Dreaming

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- UScellular will bring an augmented reality (AR) photo experience to the 2023 State Fair of West Virginia, August 10 through August 19. US Mode allows visitors to select their dream vacation spot and take a photo in front of a customized backdrop to commemorate their visit. Event attendees can participate in this shareable photo experience or stop by the UScellular booth just to recharge their phones. Visitors to the US Mode experience can also enter sweepstakes for a chance to win $20,000 for a dream vacation.

UScellular is also sponsoring the event stage and is bringing in a Cell on Light Truck, also referred to as a COLT, to increase wireless capacity during the state fair. The COLT is equipped to accommodate the spike in demand for wireless access around the grounds since the majority of attendees will be relying on their smartphones to stay connected with family and friends, share photos and post social media updates.

The COLT provides added network capacity for the increased data usage and to support the large volume of additional phone calls and texts from attendees, exhibitors and state fair staff while attending the fair. While a COLT is helpful for large events such as this, it can also be deployed to establish instant communication for responders to natural disasters and emergency situations when landline communications are interrupted.

“It’s always a great time when people come together to celebrate and connect as a community,” said Nakeita Stewart, director of sales and operations for UScellular. "We’re excited to welcome visitors to our event and want to ensure that everyone who comes to the fair can use their smartphone like they want too. Our main goal is also to inspire genuine and meaningful human connection, with and without their phones.”

Smartphones have become an essential part of everyday life, with many Americans spending a significant amount of time staring at their screens, but according to a 2022 consumer survey commissioned by UScellular, just under half of users say their smartphone enhances their lives and nearly one third agree they could spend less time on their phones.

Visitors to the US Mode experience will learn about US Mode, the company’s effort to help smartphone users have healthier digital habits by customizing focus settings on their devices. US Mode includes setting time limits on social media apps, disabling non-human push notifications, eliminating red notification bubbles for apps, enabling pre-set quiet times, and customizing app displays.
